"Truly Horrific" - 2,792 babies killed in one year

The Department of Health’s publication of abortion statistics in Northern Ireland are truly horrific. This latest report coupled with an earlier population report shows we are killing the future generation of Northern Ireland.
The Department of Health published today (30 Jan 25) their “Northern Ireland Abortion Statistics” for the year 2023/24
In a statement to the media, Director of Precious Life Bernadette Smyth said:
“This reality of this report is truly horrific. 2,792 babies were killed by abortion in Northern Ireland in the year 2023/24, This is a shocking 28.8% increase since the previous year. On average, 8 babies were killed each day of the year. The majority of these babies were killed by abortion drugs. The Department of Health kills babies up to 12 weeks old for any reason, no questions asked! The Department also admit in their report that 26 abortions were carried out when the baby was aged from 20 weeks up to the moment of birth. And 25 babies were killed simply because they may have had a disability.
“Their report also states that from 31 March 2020 there have been 8,291 abortions carried out in Northern Ireland up until 31 March 2024. However, the most recent statistic for the number of babies killed by abortion in Northern Ireland since 2020 is 8,490. This figure was admitted in May 2024 by the Health Minister in answer to an Assembly Question from TUV leader Jim Allister. Therefore, now in January 2025 the number of babies killed will be even higher than 8,490”
She added, "It’s both ironic and deeply revealing that, in a haunting parallel, a report issued only yesterday by Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) uncovered a shocking truth, now tragically confirmed by this Department of Health report published today – we are killing the future generation of Northern Ireland.
“NISRA predicts that within just six years, deaths will outnumber births annually in Northern Ireland. Compared with the rest of the UK, Northern Ireland will experience the largest drop in its child population. And by 2047, children will comprise less than one-sixth of the total population here.
“Northern Ireland is literally dying. Yet as we face this depopulation crisis, babies continue to be killed here every day. The abortion law forced on Northern Ireland by Westminster in 2020 is one of the most extreme in the world, and this horrific killing of thousands of our children – our future generations - is supported by Sinn Fein, SDLP, Alliance Party, Green Party, PBP, and members of the UUP.
Bernadette concluded, “Abortion must be made illegal and our unborn children protected once again, otherwise Northern Ireland cannot survive. A nation that kills its children has no future.”
