Precious Life Condemns Shocking BPAS Advice on Sex-Selective Abortion
Precious Life has condemned the UK’s largest abortion provider, BPAS, which has been publishing information telling women that killing unborn babies simply because they're female is not illegal, despite the UK Government stating that aborting a baby because of their sex is UNLAWFUL.
BPAS, which receives the overwhelming majority of its money from the UK taxpayer, has advised women on its website that sex-selective abortion does not break the law.
This directly contradicts the Government’s own position and exposes a serious failure of regulation and accountability.
The revelation comes in the wake of a Department of Health and Social Care report estimating that approximately 400 sex-selective abortions may have taken place between 2017 and 2021, the vast majority involving female babies.
Sex-selective abortion may be occurring in communities where cultural preference for male children is known to exist, and fears that misleading advice from BPAS may be facilitating, or even encouraging, abortions carried out solely because a baby is a girl.
This is gender discrimination in its most extreme form. Ending the life of any unborn child is always wrong but simply because she is female is a gross violation of human dignity and women’s rights.
This is a national scandal, and a Government-funded organisation should never be allowed to publish guidance that undermines the law and places unborn girls at risk. The UK Government must act without delay, by immediately withdrawing all public funding to BPAS. The law must be urgently updated to include a clear, explicit ban on sex-selective abortion.
Only decisive action will send a clear message that discrimination against girls before or after birth, will not be tolerated in the UK.
